Before the race Leo gave me his official yellow Boston Marathon
long sleeve shirt
and Dianne gave me the poster.
Thank you!
(Alex put the poster down, outside, at Sporting Intentions. If you picked it up, please let us know.
Scott Clark has brought Alex a poster from Boston the past few years. Knowing Scott wasn't running Boston this year, Leo and Dianne
both made sure Alex had his Boston Marathon 2009 keepsake. Alex was rather upset to discover he'd lost his poster.
Thanks you two, Leo - the shirt is not only his colour but it's his size too! Pretty special...)

PEI RoadRunners April Schedule

I slept in this morning. It will be the last time I'll be sleeping in on a Saturday morning for a long time - the PEI RoadRunners race schedule gets underway in earnest next Saturday morning. Alex will be running almost every weekend from now until October, sometimes twice a weekend.

A major dilemma lies ahead on July 26th when both the Cox & Palmer Run in Charlottetown and the Potato Blossom Festival Run at the Mill River Resort in Woodstock both start at 9am. He has run the Potato Blossom Festival run since 2004 and greatly enjoyed the first running of the Cox & Palmer run last year. It will be interesting to see which one he chooses.

This year, April in fact, he's hoping to run his first race on the mainland. We nearly made it last year and again this year the Grande-Digue 15K is on our calendar. Race organizer, Sylvio Bourke, goes all out in putting on this race and I'm hoping nothing prevents us from attending this year. Sylvio should be over here to run one of our races before his race on the 27th.

Running in the cold and dark

Last night was the 2nd night of running clinic. We meet at Sporting Intentions at 5:30. It was -14 degrees and colder in wind chill.

We dress in warm reflective clothing. You can see me in the middle of the photo, my jacket glows and my shoe laces glow and reflective bend on his knee. Some of us wearing Yak Trax because avoid slipping. Some people have lights.

There are some people from last group and new people. I know saw a new people like Nancy Morris who training to Boston Marathon. Some other people are training to Boston too.

Last night we run 8km at threshold pace on our running route #2. It was cold enough that the water in my water bottle was starting to freeze but I was warm.

Try the Shoes - Get the Socks (Free!) - Friday at Sporting Intentions

Folks can come in to Sporting Intentions, get fitted in the latest New Balance 1223's and they can take them out for a run. Idea being, an extended run gives you a much better impression of the shoe than just trying it on in the store.

Stan Chaisson from PEI In Motion will be there as well and he'll bring along the Foot Disc for anyone who hasn't tried it yet. The Foot Disc is a state of the art thermal foot pad that indicates foot pressure points and foot type. It's a quick and easy way to get a proper running shoe recommendation and gives you confidence and peace of mind in knowing you made the right investment.

Look for the Sporting Intentions, New Balance and PEI In Motion booth this weekend at the PEI Marathon Health & Wellness Expo for lots of great running product and training information.

The PEI RoadRunners will also have a booth at the PEI Marathon Health & Wellness Expo. Jamie is looking for volunteers to help "person" the booth... the schedule is on the PEI RoadRunners Website, as is Jamie's contact info if you can help out.

Alex & I will be working the registration desk Friday night and most of Saturday. If we don't see you then to wish you luck, Best of Luck everyone, have a good run, good fun, and make yourselves some great memories to take away with you.

Alex says that he is running the Half Marathon for the last time and next year will be moving up to PEI's Full Marathon. Training with Stanley and his PEI in Motion group the past few months has not only been good fun with good friends but has had an obvious impact on his performance. After setting personal bests in various distances this year, and especially these past few weeks, he's looking to better his 2004 PEI Half Marathon time of 1:40:50 on Sunday.

He'll also be carrying all the stats of all his friends, the PEI RoadRunners, and past PEI Marathoners & Half-Marathoners in his head and you'll be able to find him after the run at the finish line, cheering on runners and hovering around Atlantic Chip Timing's trailer awaiting each new sheet they post on their wall. He'll know in a glance if you've run a personal best for this race (and for many of you, if it's a career PB) and just how well (or poorly) your run went as well as where you may have had any problems. He'll be looking to make sure Stan repeated as winner of the Half and hoping to see lots of Island runners qualified for Boston.

Best Luck!
