Sign Up For 2009 Boston Marathon Begins Wednesday

BOSTON (WBZ) ― It's the time many runners have been waiting for. Online registration for the 113th Boston Marathon begins on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
The Boston Athletic Association has set a maximum field size of 25,000 runners for next year's race, which will be held on April, 20, 2009. Entries will be accepted until the limit is reached.

Applicants must meet certain time standards for their age group on or after September 29, 2007 to qualify for a marathon number. You can find the qualifying standards on the B.A.A. Web site.

The 2009 Boston Marathon will have a two-wave start again. The first wave of runners will start at 10 a.m. and the second wave will start 30 minutes later. Wave one runners had a qualifying time faster than 3:35 in last year's race.

Runners can also get numbers through several charities. In 2008, more than 1,200 runners represented the Charity Program's 24 organizations, combining to raise more than $11 million, according to the B.A.A.
