2:09:30!

John Kelai runs fastest marathon ever on Canadian soil

at Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront

Kenya's John Kelai won a thrilling see-saw battle with fellow countryman and former course record holder Daniel Rono to cross the line in 2:09:30, the fastest time ever run on Canadian soil. Rono came in a close second in 2:09:36, a new PR and his first time under the magic 2:10 mark.

Ethiopia's Asha Gigi led the women's race from start to finish, passing halfway in 1:12:04 before fading in the final stages. She still crossed the line in 2:33:16, a new women's course record.

'The Joggler', a.k.a. Michal Kapral, rounded out a day of superlatives and new records with a new Guinness World Record of 2:50:13 for joggling 3 balls around the 42km lakeshore course.
