LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

People are greatest asset
Editor,
I am a longtime competitive runner who recently completed your Source For Sports 10K road race in Summerside, Aug. 11.
I am a tourist from Newfoundland who has competed in a few races on your beautiful island over the years.
I must commend Mike Cameron and the volunteers for a nice job organizing the Source For Sports race. It's an attractive course that I would like to do again.
I have done a few marathons in Prince Edward Island on the old route and now the current course, which is run in October. It is arguably one of the most appealing marathons in the whole country. The landscape, organization and overall enthusiasm surrounding this marathon is incredible. This atmosphere had a lot to do with my successfully qualifying for the Boston Marathon in this race just a few years ago.
Just to switch gears, P.E.I. has many attractive features for tourists like myself. The beaches here are second to none, the farming landscape is exquisite, but it's the people here who are extremely accommodating. In all the bed-and-breakfasts, tourist homes and other accommodations I've stayed in, and staff in restaurants and tourist chalets that I've interacted with, I've found it's the people who are your greatest asset. It's the main reason I keep coming back and will continue to do so in the future.
Well done Prince Edward Island! Barry Ploughman,St. John's, Nfld.

What a view from PEI!
The view is even more spectacular in real life. This beautiful piece of land has been farmed by the Bains for generations. That's the West River in the background.
