Last night we got an email from Coke.... better late than never.... with this Message in a Bottle (and do turn your speakers up and check out that link!)
Because, according to Coke's rules, you can only be nominated once, I contacted the person who had contacted me last week about the Premier's nomination to find out just what to do. She told me that they found out last week, when they tried to input Alex's name, that he was already in the system as a runner for Coke, so the Premier nominated someone else.
So...... he has a declaration and waivers to sign and a police check to pass (he just passed one in order to volunteer at the Canada Games) and he'll be running his leg on Day 24 - November 22nd 2009, between Charlottetown and Summerside, PEI (Interactive Map here)
Thanks to all of you who have been crossing your fingers and thinking positive thoughts!
How does Alex feel about it all? --
"I am excited and I hoping to have a great time"
(typed with an ear to ear grin!)
I'm sure he will....

mew! AWESOME!! Congratulations Alex, I'll be cheering for you!
YIPPEE!!!! That's fantastic!! Will he get to keep his Torch? When Asia carried, the runners were allowed to buy the Torch they carried.
He can buy his Torch, and he might... I have no idea how much they will be, can't find that info. How much was Asia's?
Thanks for all your responses, I so should have had the video camera rolling when he got the news! When everything is totally official I'll make sure it is. The rules are *so* strict, we may not be able to say too much about things here.
Hi Jypsy,
When Asia carried the Torch in 1996, we bought it for $250, I think. And I understand about the confidentiality issues. There were so many events that Coke and the Olympic committee sponsored right around the time of the Relay. It was wonderful. Alex, and you, will have a grand time!!
